Barbecue and Children’s Activities - 12 PM

Corporate Duck Race - 1 PM

Family Duck Race - 2 PM

Funds from the 2017 Duck Race will be used to support Community and International Projects

of the two Rotary Clubs and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley

Local community organizations will also raise funds by assisting with ticket distribution.

The 2017 Apple Blossom Duck Race, in its 22nd consecutive year, has become a signature event of the Apple Blossom Festival. The race is a wholesome, fun-filled family event. The Duck Race features two exciting races: family (little rubber duckies) and corporate (duck decoys), food and beverages, face painting, and other entertainment for children.

The Apple Blossom Duck Race is the principle fund-raising activity of the Rotary Club of Wolfville, and an important fund-raiser for the Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise. In the past, the Apple Blossom Duck Race has each year raised funds for our ‘charities of choice’, including:

            > Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley (1996 - 2002, 2011 - 2016),

            > Hand to Hand to Help (a collaboration with the Eastern King Memorial Hospital

Foundation to support the financial needs of families with a member undergoing

                    cancer treatment; 2003 - 2005),

            > the Valley Hospice Foundation (2006 - 2008), and

            > the Carey Me Foundation (hospice care at home; 2009 - 2010).

Not-for-profit community groups wishing to raise funds by assisting in the running of the event should contact the Apple Blossom Duck Race Committee.

Corporate Duck Race

Hundreds of decoys decorated by participating local businesses are dropped into the Gaspereau Canal and 'race' downstream to the finish line. The entry fee pays for the mallard decoy, which the participating companies can creatively decorate with their corporate logo and promotional paraphernalia. Prizes for the ‘fastest duck’, ‘best dressed duck’, and consolation prizes in a variety of categories are awarded. Corporate ducks can be decorated and labeled with the company name, but must remain less than 60 cm by 60 cm in dimension (plan view), and less than 80 cm in height (keel to top). All entries must contain enough of the components of the original decoy supplied by the Duck Race Committee to be recognizable as a ‘duck’.

A special ‘Techno Duck Sub-Race’, involving self-propelled decoys will be included, if necessary, as part of the Corporate Duck Race. Ducks in this category can be mechanically propelled but cannot be ‘remote’ controlled or employ a GPS for navigation, although they can be ‘self’ controlled. The entrants to this sub-race will start 5 minutes after the normal Corporate Duck Race and are eligible for only the ‘Techno-Duck’ prize, and any ‘Best Dressed Duck Prize (if appropriate). All other ‘non-Techno-Duck’ participants will eligible for the ‘Fastest Duck’ and consolation prizes.

Businesses wishing to participate in the corporate duck race should contact the Apple Blossom Duck Race Committee.
